Is the Class Taught Live? What Are Live streaming Classes Like?
All of our classes are taught online and include weekly live sessions with instructors and students hosted on the ZOOM platform. The live online experience is similar in many ways to a traditional classroom experience.
Participating students can interact with their instructors, ask questions, and connect with fellow students (all from the comfort of home). Course materials, assignments, and class recordings are all available online.
How Do I Enroll in Courses? Is There An Admission Fee?
On the course details page, select “Register For This Course.” Then, follow the steps to enroll and checkout.
There is not a registration fee for students living in the U.S. However, international students must pay a one-time $65 USD fee when enrolling.
Am I Required to Attend Live Classes?
Participants in our programs should plan to attend live stream classes. Make sure you can attend the weekly live stream for your class. However, if you cannot attend, students should make arrangements with their instructor.
Many of our courses also allow students to enroll as auditors. Auditors simply observe live classes and/or re-watch class recordings. If you cannot make all of the course’s live classes, auditing is a great option.
Are There Prerequisites for EMERGE Courses?
The majority of our programs do not require prerequisite courses. However, our Performance Program courses are designed primarily for intermediate-to-advanced actors and performers; if you’re a beginning performance student, these courses might not be the best fit for you.
Ultimately, consult the course Level (Advanced, Intermediate, Beginner) on the course details page. If prerequisites are required, they will also be noted on the details page.
What Is a Class Auditor? Do Auditors Participate in Class?
Many of our Performance Program courses allow students to enroll as auditors. As an Auditor, students can observe a live stream, but auditors are not full participants. Auditors only observe; they do not interact with the instructor or participating students.
Auditing a course is ideal for:
Students who cannot attend live classes
Those who want to experience a class before participating
Students who prefer to learn through observation.
What Is a Certificate Program? Can I Earn a Degree in a Certificate Program?
Many of our University Programs are “certificate programs.” These are programs offered by our university partners like USC to students, including pre-collegiate and international students.
These programs allow students to build skills in a specific discipline like public speaking and performance, but the credits earned cannot be applied to a degree. Upon successful completion, students will receive a certificate from the university.
We do offer some degree-earning certificate programs. In these, credits earned during the course can be applied to a degree program. For more information, please contact an EMERGE learning advisor.
Who Are Youth Programs For?
EMERGE is currently expanding its youth offerings. Our Youth Program courses are available for students of all ages – including elementary, middle school, and high school students.
These programs are designed to provide children and young adults with high-quality online learning experiences in a range of disciplines, including the performing arts, leadership, and STEM.
EMERGE uses an open enrollment system for the majority of its courses. This means courses are open on a first-come, first-served basis to students. However, there are some important things to note:
English Language Proficiency – The majority of our courses are taught by native English speakers in the US or UK. Therefore, a strong command of the English language is strongly recommended.
International Admissions Fee – International students will be charged a $65 fee at the time of enrollment.
Do I Need a Student Visa?
No. All of our courses are taught entirely online. Therefore, student visas are not required for a degree or certificate programs.
What Is a College Bridge Program?
Our International Bridge Program is designed to help international students get into their dream university in the US. Specifically, our International Bridge Program provides students with:
Application Services – Get help with high school and university applications, including consultation, portfolio review/creation, interview prep, and other services.
Education Path Planning – We design a learning plan that will help you achieve your goal and build a successful application.
Is There an Admissions Fee?
Yes. International students are required to pay a one-time $65 USD application fee at the time of enrollment.
Are Your Certificate Programs Offered by the University?
Yes, our certificate programs are taught by instructors from partner universities, like the University of Southern California. However, we do remind our students that admittance into a university certificate program is not equivalent to admittance into the university as a degree-seeking student.
Students who would like to enroll at one of EMERGE’s partner universities will be required to apply through the normal international admissions process for that school.
Do I Need to Be an English Speaker?
Applicants whose primary language is not English are not required to submit formal verification of English language proficiency. However, a strong command of English is recommended, as all of our classes are taught in English.
