About the Performing Leadership Certificate Program
This certificate program, offered by the University of Southern California’s School of Dramatic Arts, explores the relationship between leadership and performance. During the 16-week course, students will cultivate their speaking abilities to command attention as leaders and performers.
Strong leaders are performers at heart. A leader with the ability to captivate an audience can inspire colleagues and command attention. The Performing Leadership program encourages students to develop their natural speaking and performance abilities to prepare for leadership roles.
This program features four 4-week modules, which include a weekly 2-hour live lecture:
Module 1: Being On Screen
Explore on-camera performance and develop your ability to appear on screen with confidence, spontaneity and warmth.
Module 2: Public Speaking
Learn the art of presenting and expressing yourself in public, engaging your audience and developing/delivering persuasive content.
Module 3: Developing Your Speaking Voice
Develop your speaking voice with targeted vocal exercises to improve articulation, range and intonation, and enhance your confidence as a speaker and communicator.
Module 4: Improvisation
Learn to be “in the moment” when performing and develop your ability to be a spontaneous communicator and collaborator.
Module 1: Being On Screen
Explore performing for the screen. During this module, you’ll learn to be comfortable, charismatic and your natural self on camera. Plus, students will explore working with scene partners to convey emotion and develop character on screen.
Module 2: Public Speaking
Explore the basics of public speaking; then work on developing your ability as a public speaker. Using texts and written assignments, you’ll explore how to captivate an audience, persuade listeners and express emotion.
Module 3: Developing Your Speaking Voice
During this module, work on building and enhancing your speaking voice. Use targeted exercises to enhance your range, intonation, articulation and your ability to express emotion as a speaker.
Module 4: Improvisation
Become a spontaneous communicator, a team player or a team leader, a great collaborator, and gain the ability to use an artistic mindset to “think outside the box”, solve problems, and bring your community together.

This program takes 16 weeks to complete, so you can earn the certificate in one semester.
Once a week. Students meet once a week for 4 weeks. Each class session is 2 hours in length. The date and time for each course will be reflected on the course details page.
This program includes weekly live class sessions. Students have access to recorded lectures after the class period, as well.
No problem. You will be able to access all recorded sessions at your convenience. You’ll see this recording once you login and access ‘My Dashboard’ after the class has ended for the day.
Each course will be offered on a rolling four-week cycle. So you need only wait until the next month.
